Why Isn't Anyone 'Flock'ing?

FlockAs of July 2009, Mozilla’s Firefox accounted for nearly 23% of all browser usage – making it the second most popular Web browser worldwide behind Microsoft’s many versions of Internet Explorer, which claim 68% of the browser-usage pie.

While these two browsers are the most popular, there are several others – including Opera, Chrome and Safari – which begs the question, is there room for anybody else?

Coffee Break: Google, Google, Gmail, Bing Vs. Google, Blogs on Paper, and Michael Jackson doesn't crash the Internet

Morning coffee mugI’ve got six goodies for you today.  Google just announced a new operating system based on their recently released web browser, Chrome.  Is it a threat to Windows? They also recently removed a little word that’s been hanging around your Gmail screen since you joined the tens of millions of users of that popular email service: “Beta”

Just to transition away from a heavy Google news day, we’ve also got a review of Microsoft’s new search engine, Bing, which was launched about a month ago, and how it compares to Google.  David Pogue seems to be quite smitten, but the numbers aren’t in Microsoft’s favor.  Since launch, Bing has been hovering at around 3% market share, while Google is still at around 89% (source: StatCounter).  But just because it’s the little guy doesn’t mean it’s not great.

Bing – You're It!

BingWell, it’s no secret to those who know me that I am not a fan of most of Microsoft’s products (though some cool things are happening with the XBOX 360 if this is its future).  But this week Microsoft launched Bing, a new search engine aimed at finally procuring a serious portion of the search-engine market.

I’ve played around with it a bit, watching its video tutorials (probably the weakest part of the launch, actually), and searching, you know, for things.  I have to admit, it’s pretty cool.  I’ll write more after more testing, and figuring out how it’s going to shake up the online marketing world.  But in the meantime, here’s something that can’t be ignored: Bing has overtaken Yahoo! and holds more of the market than MSN and Windows Live did, combined.  Pretty impressive.

Have you tried it?  What do you think?
