Welcome to the new home of Hiring the Internet

Welcome to the new home of Hiring the Internet

Surprise! Over the weekend, we’ve launched a whole new home for our marketing news blog. Everything that used to be over at can now be found all in one place here at

Hiring the Internet’s been around since the beginning of 2007 (that’s forever in internet years) and we’re really proud of the loyal following of readers we’ve gained in that time. We get thousands of visits from people like you every month, looking for some advice or insight in web marketing. We’ll be continuing to give you everything you’ve come to expect with our new blog.

Our goal is to deliver a nicer experience, with easier access to both news about us, and our regular and super-informative and probably-researched articles on Internet Marketing.

A brief tour of our new features:

  • A slick new homepage at where you can see our most recent posts highlighted (making use of some fun new CSS3 design tricks!)
  • Nice big images, both as lead-ins to our most recent posts, as well as in the headline for every post.
  • Re-organized and condensed categories. You can see them listed at the left. Each category has it’s own accompanying icon, that appears next to the title on every page a post is listed. Click an icon to see the most recent posts in that category.
  • All the old posts on have been seamlessly redirected to their new URLs. Good for our readers, and good for SEO. Everyone’s happy.

Like the new look? Hate it? We’d love to hear your feedback.

10 Marketing Strategies for a Small Business in 2010

Web site marketingTake a look! We just published a video and white paper with ten things you should focus on for your 2010 online marketing. This list will give you some marketing issues to consider, and will be a good starting point for planning your web site marketing.

You’re going to love it – so check it out and spread the word!

Web Service Highlight: Emma

One of the main questions we get asked by our members is what sort of technology or service they should be working with. It wasn’t that long ago that you’d need an in-house development team to power your internet marketing. Now, there are so many good and reliable web services out there, that it’s entirely possible for a small business to get big business results without their own tech staff. We use a number of different online services here at VisibleU, and we can’t give you a much stronger endorsement than to let you know what we trust our own business with. So this will be the first in a series of posts where we highlight a web service or piece of software we use regularly.

Is there really no page fold?

scrollThis has been all over Twitter lately – if you haven’t already seen it:

People seem to be passing this around, along with comments along the lines of “amen!” and “send someone to this the next time they make a know-it-all-comment about putting something above the fold on your site design!” As someone who talks about designing around the fold a fair deal, I had kind of a squinty-eyed suspicious sort of reaction to these comments, but I also started thinking about it.

The Official Launch of VisibleU is this Wednesday!

VisibleUMonths of intense labor has finally paid off … Visible Shops is very happy to announce the launch of VisibleU!

The official launch of VisibleU is on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at the NY XPO for Business. It’s the region’s largest B2B show, featuring a full day of business opportunity, growth and value. Not to mention plenty of time to network! If you have time to stop by, we highly recommend it. You never know who you’ll meet – besides us, of course.

In the meantime, we wanted to let all of you know that VisibleU is up and running right now, and we’d like all of our friends from Visible Shops to see what we’ve done and how you can benefit from it.

Through the past several years we met with many small business owners who really liked our concepts, our methodology and our people, but said that we simply cost too much for them. We decided a year ago to do something about that. We resolved to find a way to bring our concepts, methodology and expertise to every small business owner that wanted to take advantage of Internet marketing.

The rules we set for ourselves were simple.

1.    Must be affordable for all businesses no matter how small.
2.    Must be able to educate small business owners on Internet Marketing concepts and tools.
3.    Must provide access to our professional Internet Marketing Staff.
4.    Must be scalable so all businesses can get what they need.
5.    Should not require a long term contract.
6.    Should always deliver a positive ROI.

We did it! Now it’s available to you. Visit the VisibleU Web site and check it out.

But wait – there’s more…

MarketingCharts Help with Internet Research

hitwise-2009-september-print-media-websitesIf you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know that we use a lot of statistics and facts to present compelling cases for all manner of arguments regarding Internet marketing.

Of course, we don’t make that data up. No, we use sources such as eMarketer, MarketingProfs and other research entities that compile information that allow us to draw conclusions and provide our two cents on various topics on advertising and marketing across channels but especially online.

Unless you’re a subscriber to these services, however, you may not have access to all the information they hold. Information that can help you when planning your own marketing campaigns or campaigns for clients.

A great resource that we’ve found – which is available to everyone – is MarketingCharts, charts and data for marketers in Web and Excel formats.
